The article examines the historiographical debate about the Catholic opposition to the Fascist regime and the Catholic contribution to the Resistance, including the studies on the attitude of the Church concerning World War II and the foundation of the Christian Democratic party. These issues have been the subject of an intense historical debate, especially in the context of the fiftieth anniversary of the Liberation, and relate to the different forms of opposition carried out by Catholics between the 1920s and 1945. The study is therefore based on a wide range of researches that, particularly in the last twenty-five years, have investigated the evolution and the different facets of Catholic opposition to Fascism: from the origins to the choice for Resistance.
