This essay aims to outline an interpretative survey (both historical and literary) of a recent editorial phenomenon, namely the success in Spain (and in Italy too) of Spanish fiction concerning the Civil War of 1936-39, its origins and its either immediate or posthumous consequences. This boom starts after the end of the Cold War and is marked by the adoption of post-modern stylistic features, a strong recover of romantic narrative, an intense dialogue with medias and the narrative codes of audiovisual medias and fiction in general. It is also able to intertwine the public discourse on historical memory and to recover in a literary frame some polemic and controversial points of historical revisionism.
Keywords: Novel, History and memory, Spanish civil war
