This paper analyses the environmental disaster in the Land of Fires, a geographical area where organized crime has transformed the illicit waste management into a business. The concern with this type of illicit activity in this context has led the law-maker to intervene in the issue: as a consequence, nowadays the Italian penal code provides a new section concerned with eco-crimes. In this perspective, the sociological and legal reflections on this reform meet and intertwine with the wider "environmental question".
