The article presents the results of a research on the relationship between young people and the laws that regulate alcohol consumption in Italy. First, and foremost, it aims to explore young people’s knowledge on the contents of the regulation in force, their opinions about its validity, and their attitudes and behaviors, either in terms of their acceptance and compliance or in terms of transgression. Secondly, it aims to contribute to foreshadowing the scenarios and the expected and unexpected consequences of the possible introduction of new prohibitions aimed at controlling and limiting the use of alcoholic beverages, based on the evaluation of the young people about the attitudes, as well as behaviors that would presumably be adopted. The conclusions suggest that, despite the changes characterizing the young generation’s alcohol consumption compared to the traditional Italian drinking culture, the rules in force - provided they are consistently applied - would still be preferable for the purposes of maintaining a generally moderate drinking style, over prohibition-oriented rules belonging to countries characterized by different alcohol cultures.
