The issue of the European single currency has been debated for a long time also in Italy, where a high-level critical scholarly literature has developed. Generally speaking, Italy is open to this debate, and the most important books written by the Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz have been translated into Italian. In this note, the author discusses Stiglitz’s latest book, devoted to the European single currency. An exit from the Euro should not be regarded as a taboo, but as one of the possible options. This is the argument advanced by Stiglitz 's book, which the au-thor of this note shares, and he even takes to the extreme. If, since its very inception, the Euro has been a wrong marriage, then why should an amicable divorce not be considered? This brief note aims at opening a debate also among jurists on a topic that has all too often been censored.
