The aim of these pages is to introduce some ontological issues arising fromthe IT debate on Smart Cities. The analysis starts by describing what "SmartCity Ontologies" (SCO) are and by showing some of their main purposes andparadigmatic examples. Then, it is outlined a possible strategy for the design of aSCO suitable for integrating data of different smart applications, developed bothin local and global contexts.
