In order to combat the provision of unlawful intermediation services and labour exploitation, art. 603 bis of the Criminal Code was introduced by Law Decree 138/2011, converted into Law 148/2011, and subsequently amended by Law 199/2016. Moving on from the analysis of the data collected by the Laboratory for research on labour exploitation and the protection of its victims, established at the inter-university research centre L’Altro diritto in collaboration with Flai-Cgil, this piece aims to highlight these explorations and to enhance the potential of the protection paths envisaged by article 18 of the Legislative Decree 286/1998, up to date almost unused, but with the potential to help emancipating victims from illegality.
Keywords: Victims of labour exploitation; Trafficking; Social protection; Criminal offences.
