The affirmation of secularism and the fragmentation of Sacred make the question of the relationship between politics and law more relevant than ever. Machiavelli, who had addressed the problem of how republics should deal with emergency situations, can suggest some useful reflections even today. Man and, above all, the political power must operate ra-tionally, taking into account the complexity of reality.
