Romualdo Maria Rizzari was a Benedictine monk, an intellectual and a mem-ber of the élitarian aristocracy of Catania, which was strongly linked to the Catho-lic church. In Sicily he was a proponent of the "enlightened Catholicism", devel-oped throughout the Europe, it combines worship and science, the idea of beauty and the public utility. Rizzari shall endeavour to the renewal of Sicilian society. He was a brilliant orator, appreciated for his armonic inspiration. He hows its "nation-al" fame to have been the "main mathematics teacher of the University of Cata-nia".
