Current democracies are ruled by the principle of representation. Here political parties are crucial: they are at the cross of the democratic ways. They are in-between the people, who are selecting and supporting them, and the political institutions, which are using them to get the elected persons they need to be operational. This political parties are giving democracy its structure: they are building the electoral offer and organising the access to elections. The comparative study of their identification, their role and their financing system is showing it, based on fifteen different systems which have met at the Forum international sur la Constitution et les institutions politiques (ForInCIP).

Keywords: Democrazia, elezioni, partito politico, finanziamento elettorale, proporzionale, maggioranza; democracy, elections, political party, electoral financing, proportional electoral system, majority.
