The paper offers an analysis of the Riace model by observing the decisions and actions made by three institutional actors: the local administration, the Calabria Region and the Ministry of the Interior. The aim is to describe how the "territorialisation" of national and regional public policies on immigration unfolded in both Riace and Calabria. However, given the peculiarities of Riace model, this territorialisation has shown significant consequences on the local development strategy for Calabrian inner areas. Therefore, the paper suggests that the case of Riace can be useful to articulate some possible ways both to redefine the role of institutions in local development processes and to highlight some hints with respect to how redefine local development strategy’s goals.
