The Author offers an overview of the development of Elvio Fa-chinelli’s psychoanalytic thinking through an in-depth analysis of the topics covered in his main works (La freccia ferma ‒ The Stationary Arrow, Claustrofilia ‒ Claustrophilia, La mente estatica ‒ The Ecstatic Mind). She highlights how Fachinelli moves from a classical position, maintaining that the aim of the psychoanalytic process is making the unconscious wish conscious ‒ thus overcoming defence barriers ‒ to a dynamic view of the analytic dialogue, directed at broadening the sub-ject’s psychic experiences and dimensions. Lastly, the Author under-lines Fachinelli’s innovative thinking with respect to subsequent au-thors (Ogden, Ferro, Roussillon, Bollas), who further described the functioning of the analyst’s mind in the session and its orientation to-wards activating container-contained dynamics.

Keywords: Osessive neurosis, claustrophobia/claustrophilia, defences, ecstasy, container-contained.
