The essay analyses the legal status of asylum seekers and their integration into the host society, focusing - in particular - on the legislative framework deriving from the transposition of the European Union directive on the reception of international protection applicants. The author investigates the rules on reception, civil registration, health, social assistance, housing, access to the labour market and education, highlighting the obstacles that in fact seem to prevent a full integration of this category of migrants, waiting for the recognition of the international protection.
