The article focuses on the relation between community enterprises and welfare in rural areas. Community enterprises are a way of produce goods and services based on the direct participation of inhabitants in the management and financing of production factors. Starting from the analysis of the main characteristic of community enterprises, this paper provides empirical evidence of the capability of community enterprises to restructure the welfare system and promote new local development pathways in rural areas.
