Actually, the mountains configure as a mosaic of territories, extremely complex and diversi-fied, which are protagonists of regeneration paths that start from the re-interpretation of local resources by mountain communities. The fragility of the mountains, although structural elements of the territories themselves, have determined forms of marginality that are now inter-preted as opportunities. In relation to this different vision of marginality, the article proposes some reflections on the ability of some territories to reverse their path, implementing new forms of development. Through some examples of these mountain areas, the article highlights the value of local resources and the significance of hybridization processes between external and internal elements. Beyond any rhetoric, the article puts in evidence how some conditions are necessary to manage the activation of these paths of regeneration. Finally, referring to the contact situation of strongly fragile mountain areas with areas that are instead globalized by the phenomena of mass tourism and major events, in the article a positive re-reading of these situations emerges as lever in order to implement a territorial system that integrates the vari-ous parts of the mountains, producing re-balancing and territorial added value.
