The paper analyses the occupational consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on the foreign resident population compared to the national one in Italy. The authors use the Italian Labour Force Survey microdata from 2009 to the second quarter of 2020 and enrich it with data from ICP (Indagine Campionaria sulle Professioni), the O*Net Italian counterpart, to include tasks and occupational characteristics in the analysis, with a focus on proximity with co-workers, contact with customers, caregiving activities and exposition to diseases or infections. This information is used to create a COVID-19 contagion risk indicator to be used in the analysis. By means of a linear probability model, the authors compare the effect of COVID-19 on the transition to unemployment or inactivity and on the reduction of working activity for foreigners and national residents. Results show a higher incidence of job loss and a lower reduction of working hours for foreign residents, with higher effects for women.
