One of the components of the Soviet space myth is the Soviet Union’s internation-al collaboration in space exploration and the Ussr’s willingness to establish open relations with foreign partners. It is no coincidence that Soviet space propaganda is per-meated with images of openness, generosity and altruism. The author aims to investi-gate the international dimension of Soviet space research both through scientific and popular publications, and through the writings produced by witnesses personally in-volved in the aerospace industry. The process of international opening is examined in its two fundamental aspects: the participation of the USSR in international initiatives and collaboration with other countries. The contribution also intends to identify any discrepancies between the official narrative and the actual reality of international col-laboration. The author points out that the internalization of space research by the So-viet Union is a long process divided into several phases. Behind the needs of propa-ganda there is a dilemma between secrecy and demonstration of successes which is resolved with contradictory results.
