The characters of Rodrigue in Le Soulier de satin and of Mesa in Partage de Midi are widely representative of Claudel’s interest for the theme of conversion. They are clear examples of the dramatist’s intention to express through his theatre his own autobiographi¬cal experience. Nevertheless, we can observe in the destiny of the two heroes created by Claudel’s pen meaningful suggestions about the urgency of a ‘conversion’ in this time of pandemic crisis. It refers specifically to a deep change of perspective involving a transfor¬mation of the ethic, economic and political paradigm.
