Contemporary Italian countryside. Spaces for specialized agricultural production in Capo Pachino The increasing of specialized agricultural productions allows us to observe the way in which important parts of the contemporary Italian countryside are changing. In fact, these productions take on particular features in Italy, which remove them from many of the observations (and generalizations) that, in the international literature, look at the spaces of specialized agriculture as monofunctional platforms, regulated by rigid infrastructures and sophisticated logistics programs that exclude them from contexts within which they are located. The differences appear particularly relevant in Capo Pachino, where the specialized production of tomatoes, although present for over half a century and capable of generating an economy of great importance not only locally, has built spaces with unstable organizations and transitory forms. This weak infrastructure of Capo Pachino, which on the one hand entails enormous fragility in the management and governance of the production sector, on the other also guarantees its dynamism, its openness and its ability to be crossed by multiple uses and relationships. It is for these characteristics that the article raises some design and operational reflections on the relationship between specialized production and transformation of the contemporary countryside.
