Earthquakes affect the landscape violently and unexpectedly. This article supports the thesis that by leveraging identity and collective memory, some elements of permanence and stability of the landscape that can guide the reconstruction promoting responsible design experimentation. The Guiding Document for the Reconstruction of Arquata del Tronto has proved to consider these issues, suggesting a possible project path.
