This article focuses on two case studies of the reception system of asylum seekers and holders of international protection carried out in Valsugana and in Val di Su-sa, two Italian Alpine localities respectively in Trentino and Piemonte. These case studies are both characterized by the attempt to make the extraordinary reception system as close as possible to the quality standards of the ordinary SPRAR/SIPROIMI/SAI system and now suffering from the effects of the new "Security Decree". Through a qualitative research design, the article looks inside these implementation processes, focusing on how the space and time dimensions have been slowly "filled in" by the constant work of local communities, migrants and social workers, in a way that blurs the political and sociological distinctions of reception and integration. Thus, the main purpose of the research is to reflect on the interconnectedness of the meso (the local level), the micro (the daily interaction between asylum seekers-social workers-local communities) and the macrolevel (national policies).
Keywords: asylum seekers; migration governance; Valsugana; Val Susa; reception system.
