The essay illustrates the humanitarian commitment of Yasmeen Lari, starting from when, following the Kashmir earthquake, she began to dedicate her life to the most indigent people, demonstrating a constant commitment to building a ‘Social and Ecological Justice’. A commitment on the field with two main objectives: improving the living conditions of the poorest and most vulnerable populations, and environmental sustainability. A complex work of vast international interest paying attention to local materials, history, and traditions. Architecture as a process aimed at the independence and empowerment of her ‘barefoot clients’ - especially women - through a constant commitment to the training of younger architects and self-builders, as well as to dealing with the Covid-19 emergency.

Keywords: women empowerment; zero carbon architecture; social and ecological justice
