In the time of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, many individuals had to make profound changes in their everyday lives. These changes have affected not only people lives but also the number and type of psychopathology that clinicians must face. The increase seen in adolescents’ eating disorders and Non-Suicidal Self Injury (NSSI) is alarming. There seems to be a common denominator between these two psychopathological manifestations, a thread that runs between the body and the self- harming gesture, concerning the experience of time in our "consumerist" society: the abandonment of a slow, reflective, introspective time in favor of velocity and alacrity of action, which analyzes and deceives quickly and immediately. The offer of an immediately ready and available solution, of new objects to be achieved and possessed, certainly soothes the discomfort, but at the same time, it exiles the subject from his true Self, it moves away from its roughness, blunts the edges without however leveling them. In an age when the passage of time appears and must always be faster and more tumultuous to keep up with the time that is further accelerated towards an undefined goal, according to a consumerist practice that cannot allow pauses or slowdowns, the "physical and material" body always immediately available is affirmed as a privileged and exclusive place from which to pour the soothing ointment, the "magical potion" that proves to be dramatically dysfunctional.
