This study aims to investigate the main trends in the development of supplementary healthcare policies, considering an industrial relations perspective. The research is conducted through an empirical analysis on a selection of 58 National Collective Agreements, focusing on the spe-cific provisions that regulate the bilateral Health Care Funds, to ascertain, on the one hand, whether there are any "models" of development of the issues of health care policies, and on the other hand what are the main measures guaranteed by the Funds. The first evidences emerging from the cases analysed show, on the one hand, a process of centralisation of re-sources towards the large sectoral and Intersectoral Funds, promoted at national level. On the other hand, in terms of benefits, the Funds operate mainly within the health areas already cov-ered by the National Health System, rather than with a truly supplementary purpose to public services.
