Baldo Rossi (Pioltello, Milano, 1868 - Milano, 1932) was a chief surgeon at Milanese Ospedale Maggiore (Main Hospital) between XIXth and XXth century. He worked before the sulphonamide era, he can be regarded as an old fashioned surgeon, but he was devoted to modernity and innovation in surgery. He was a leading surgeon in aseptic surgery, trau- matology, orthopedics, military surgery and rehabilitation. By following his ergobiography we can recognize the main events in the history of Ospedale Maggiore. The authors under- line the relevance of some sources, as catalogs of surgical instruments makers: they are evidence of the history of Ospedale Maggiore, and Baldo Rossi was a protagonist in this history.
Keywords: Baldo Rossi, Surgery, XIX century, XX century, Milanese Main Hospital, Sur- gical instruments makers, Catalogs.
