In contemporary societies characterized by different processes of social decompo-sition and participatory disaffection, the project to regenerate "inclusive, inno-vative and reflective" communities have been confronted with new forms of social inequality and poverty, some exacerbated during the Covid19 crisis. Welfare is asked to rethink itself to respond to this widespread vulnerability in a regenera-tive and preventive perspective and with asymmetrical interventions to cope with emerging problems. The article traces some recent transformations of the welfare system, examine some recent research projects on social policies in Italy and pro-poses three lines of change. The research considered by the author shows that re-lational goods are the basis of sustainable welfare, that the multidimension-al/multidisciplinary/multifocal approach is the most effective intervention and that integrated, new reticular and circular governance are able to give meaning to the action, through innovative logics of co-design and co-production that con-sider the territorial heterogeneities.
Keywords: Welfare; New public governance; Inequalities; Relational goods; Mul-tidisciplinarity; Integration.
