The essay examines the most relevant aspects of the renewal of the national collective bargaining agreement for the metalworking industry 2021. Particular attention has given to the organi-zational and legal aspects of the reform of classification of employees, as well as to the issues of continuing vocational training and employees participation rights. A specific in-depth study is also dedicated - thanks to the possibility of consulting the OCSEL database (National Observatory on Second Level Bargaining of the CISL) - to the trends in collective bargaining at company level in the period 2016-2021, through a statistical and quantitative analysis of the agreements, as well as with the illustration of some emblematic cases. The essay ends with some brief reflections on the scope of the 2021 contract renewal and on the problems concerning the application of the renewed contract at company level.
Keywords: National collective bargaining; Metalworking sector; Classification of workers; Continuous training; Employee participation rights; Collective bargaining at company level.
