The article examines the positions of the Health Institute technicians on nuclear safety during the 1970s. Their nuclear risk assessments helped fuel the debate on nuclear energy within the Pci at the time of the National Energy Plan (1975) and in the face of the emerging antinuclear movement. The Institute finally came into conflict with the Ministry of Industry, highlighting the fault lines between institutions, and between institutions and territories, over Italy’s nuclear fate.
