An evident peculiarity of the twentieth century is the relationship between architecture and politics, in particular that dictated by the totalitarianisms that have pervaded numerous social and state structures. This connection developed between analogies and differences, originally proposing a continuity between past and future, through substantial contributions to the union between ideology and architectural aesthetics. The creative appropriation by these regimes also acted on the scale of the city, preparing both monumental compositions and less characterized realizations, up to using typically modern languages. This heritage poses considerable complexity in the attribution of the value judgment for the purposes of architectural recovery through which it is necessary to privilege the original meanings ‘case by case’.
