As known, following the processes of globalization, the trajectories and practices of emi-gration have diversified. In the geography of places of destination, China represents one of the countries privileged by the new migratory flows, the so-called highly qualified migrations. This paper presents a reflection on the findings from our extensive study on the emigration of Italians to Shanghai. Particularly, we analyse the daily life of migrants, the challenges they face, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their migration paths.
Keywords: new migrations, expat, skilled migration, People’s Republic of China, Shanghai, Covid-19
