This essay shows the first results of a research aimed at reconstructing the biography of Nelo Risi (1920-2015), a poet and director. A transversal reading of the poetic production between the second postwar and the mid- 1970s is proposed. More specifically, the connection between language, history and contemporaneity is investigated. Then, the analysis follows a similar path to the one undertaken for poetry, and it focuses on Nelo Risi’s documentary and film production. The profile of an artist still too little known will emerge, one who was able to unfold the second half of the Twentieth Century in its political, cultural, historical, and memorial inter- connections.
