In French, it is the same signifier that refers to the two different signifieds, namely the or-gans of sensoriality (the senses) and signification (the meaning), which emphasises that access to meaning depends fundamentally on sensoriality. From there, the article addresses the ques-tion of foetal sensoriality, and in particular auditory sensoriality, from the perspective of Su-zanne Maiello’s work on the first prenatal sound object. The question of polysensoriality is then raised, with reference to intersubjectivity, presymbolic representations and the language of the body and of the act. The article concludes with some reflections on the dialectic between being and existence and on autistic functioning between autosensuality and autoeroticism.
