In the Italian anti-violence system, women's and feminist associations have played a central role by stimulating the prevention and fight against violence against women at different levels, and providing a concrete response to the needs of the victims, through the creation of the first anti-violence centers and shelters. The article describes the effects produced by public funding mechanisms not only on the territorial distribution of anti-violence centers, but also on the role that women’s and feminist associations have had in their development and on the concrete intervention practices they implement in support of women victims of violence.
