After 1946, monarchy studies suffered a scientific damnatio memoriae in Italy. Twenty-five years ago, Filippo Mazzonis inaugurated a new history of the Savoy monarchy in contemporary age, launching a pro-grammatic manifesto from the pages of the journal «Cheiron». Since then, many historians, both nationally and internationally, have tackled the subject with books, articles, conferences and exhibitions. The essay offers an update overview of the historiography.
