The aim of this article is to present a general overview of the phenomenon of “asylum bulletins” in Italy in the second half of the nineteenth century, in order to highlight their character as an important intermediary instrument between the inside and the outside of the asylum, aimed at com- municating the reality of psychiatric work to the laymen. The various news- papers also offers an opportunity for an analysis about the question of the patient’s writings in the context of Italian positivism.
