Economic issues have remained peripheral in most of the publications surrounding the centenary of the March on Rome. However, innovative trends are emerging, not least due to the tendency to cross disciplinary and sub-disciplinary boundaries, particularly the divide between economic history and political history. Among the most relevant topics are autarky, inequality, and the banking system. This note attempts to account for recent research and ongoing debates, between economic and political history, and to point out some common lines of reflection: the relation between wealth accumulation and distribution, development, and international interdependencies.
Keywords: economy, inequality, Bank of Italy, austerity, autarky
