The paper presents and synthesizes the psychotherapeutic intervention with Robert, a child with Specific Learning Disorder characterized by impairments in calculation and writing, and the comorbidly of Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Following the assessment, psychotherapy treatment was started and an intervention targeting the learning difficulties was implemented to equip the child with a suitable study method to compensate for his difficulties. Due to the comorbidity of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, a psychotherapeutic treatment using the Cool Kids protocol for anxiety disorders was selected. The intervention aimed at reducing anxious symptoms and accepting possible academic and interpersonal failures. In the initial phase of psychoeducation, the child was explained how anxiety works, how it is activated, and its vicious cycle. Improvement in symptoms was observed during the sharing of the internal profile. Subsequently, cognitive restructuring was employed to address the fear of inadequacy and judgment. Attention was also given to explore interests and values. Despite the feeling of anxiety, Roberto learned to face situations he believed being difficult to experience Simultaneously, parent training was conducted to support to better manage their child’s anxiety, working on their sense of competence, and modifying their behavior to avoid escalation during moments of anxiety.A specialized intervention was also planned to help Roberto with his learning difficulties. Throughout the treatments, improvements were observed in academic performance, social relationships, and family interactions.
