Theories of biological evolution are not accepted by many people in the world, with great differences between countries. This is due to factors such as religion, observation of empirical phenomena and different views of scientific activity. We propose the results of a survey on the strength of associations between na-tionality, religion and acceptance of evolution that involved two representa-tive samples of Italian and Brazilian students. The results show that sociocultural factors have a greater influence on the ac-ceptance of evolution, much more than religious ones. Religious affiliation is therefore not the main factor in predicting the level of acceptance of evolution.
Keywords: evolutionism; religion; students; education; young people; science.
