Jean Brunhes played a key role in the creation of the Archives de la Planète (ADLP), a project funded by tycoon Albert Kahn between 1912 and 1933. The French geographer participated with other operators in national and international missions, bringing his methodology to the recently born discipline of Human Geography. This article investigates Brunhes’ use of photography and the camera as tools for producing geographic knowledge. To this end, it is necessary to understand the historical context in which these tools were adopted, reconstruct the ‘Brunhes method’ and how photographs and film footage were used in the documentation. Finally, the ADLPs at the Kahn Museum in Paris are analyzed as a site well-suited for geographical dissemination and education.
