FrancoAngeli is member of Publishers International Linking Association, Inc (PILA), a not-for-profit association which run the CrossRef service enabling links to and from online scholarly content.

The creation in 2006 of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System has contributed to increasing pressure on scholars and researchers in the humanities, both in terms of “productivity” and as an incentive to abandon the Italian language in academic writing in favour of English, imposed as the sole legal language for the development of research projects. According to the author, this phenomenon, neutrally presented a means of facilitating exchanges between members of the “scientific community”, damages pluralism and contributes to reducing the complexity of discourse. The main side effects include the systematic translation of source citations into English, the delegitimisation of style and the elimination of all elements of literary expression from scientific prose. This levelling zeal, sometimes applied indiscriminately in peer review processes, rejects as unnecessary aesthetic elements that are substantive to the discourse, ultimately impoverishing the content of published research and discriminating against fields characterised by the utmost attention to text and word meaning, such as history and philology.
