The author addresses the dynamics that characterize relationships in which people seem united in such a way as to experience emotionally “fusion” relationships, such as to make sep-aration impossible without feeling missing a part of themselves. It proposes, according to the theoretical lines of Loewald and Mitchell, to consider the importance in the development of mental functioning of the experience of “undifferentiated affective density” with the other, ear-ly inscribed in the subject’s mind, through real pre-verbal representations and unconscious. He presents the meeting with a psychoanalyst as a possibility of coming into contact with this “re-lational configuration” to provide a space and time in which this level of the patient’s interiori-ty can manifest itself, taking the form of subjective experience and future development.
Keywords: unlivable separation, undifferentiated matrix, loss of self, integration, unremoved unconscious.
