The present theoretical paper intends to reflect on the concept of the Life Project, also including in the reflection the latest regulatory provisions set forth in the recent Legislative Decree No. 62/2024. More particularly, the meaning of Life Project will be first explained and the reasons why using both the expressions separately “Life Project” and “Individual Project” is preferred (even though this distinction is not present in the above-mentioned decree). Then, a reflection about the principle of self-determination will follow because this factor is indispensable for giving centrality to disabled people in the construction of their own life. Finally, some practical suggestions will be provided for those involved – with different roles – in the assessment and design of the Life Project.
