This literature review reconstructs Giovanni Miccoli’s historiographical contribution to the study of relations between the Holy See, the Catholic Church, Nazi Germany, and the Shoah. This is a widely debated topic to which the Italian historian has made a significant contribution, starting with a pioneering essay published in 1965 in the journal “Belfagor”. However, from the 1980s onwards Miccoli’s studies on the link between Christian anti-Jewish tradition and modern anti-Semitism intensified, leading to important results, that made it possible to interpret the attitude of the Holy See during the Second World War within a long-term interpretative paradigm.
