In this dialogue, Malcolm Parlett and Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb explore the principal applications of Gestalt therapy in post-modern society. Starting with Paul Goodman’s example, Parlett focuses on the current importance of political and social calling of Gestalt therapists. Following a developmental perspective, the author underlines the need for a complex conceptualizing of intelligence. Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb highlights the fundamental role of Gestalt therapy in a desensitizing society as supporting individuals facing life challenges. The author describes benefits of personal psychotherapy and of continuous supervision for psychotherapists. The authors call for a more active commitment by Gestalt psychotherapists for society’s development and community welfare.
