The article summarizes the results of the research published in the book "An emergent treasure. Italian mid-sized firms of the global age", edited by Riccardo Varaldo, Daniele Dalli, Riccardo Resciniti e Annalisa Tunisini and published by Franco Angeli. The research focused on the qualitative analysis of Italian mid-sized dynamic firms with the aim to identify main basis of their market success. The three dimensions by which these companies are studied are the entrepreneurial, the competitive and the organizational/ relationship dimensions. The article explores the main characteristics of the business models of these companies and discusses the opportunities and difficulties connected to the sustainability of their competitiveness in the near future.
