Mondo contemporaneo adheres to a rigorous double-blind reviewing policy and publishes articles which are new in content and interpretation and make a fresh contribution to the knowledge of 20th century history. However, our concept of "contemporary" is elastic and selective, so we do not rule out publication of articles dedicated to the end of the 19th century if they shed light on problems which are still relevant for what might be deemed the civilization of our times. The journal has an Editorial Advisory Board, comprising a group of qualified Italian historians, which calls on relevant participation from international scholars. In line with the journal's comparative approach, it is open to the international community of historians and publishes articles on historical debates taking place in different countries. And rather than favouring any preordained historical thesis, it focuses particular attention on the work of the historian and on a discussion of his/her methods, sources, and documents. It publishes articles that exceed the generally allowed 8,000/10,000 word limit. Special attention is paid to debates, bibliographical studies and book reviews. One section, "Laboratorio" (Workshop), is dedicated to the tools of the historians’ trade.
