Leisure time, social and cultural participation are increasingly fundamental needs for people to satisfy. Today, public and private institutions often try to make efforts to promote the enjoyment of leisure and social participation. Indagini Multiscopo sulle famiglie, a survey drawn up by the Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) provides a wide range of specific data in order to evaluate particular aspects of Italian people’s life. Such a survey is highly meaningful since Italian people are very different in culture and habits. This work uses the set of data to highlight the Italian situation through the construction of a composite indicator with the Borda method. This indicator shows in what circumstances can occur high levels of social and cultural participation. It is compared with the disposable income per capita to verify the correlation between income and economic opportunities.

Keywords: Cultural participation, social participation, Borda method, indicator.
