The purpose of this study is to investigate the job insecurity as a factor which negatively affects the occupational future time perspective in service workers. It, in turn, affects wellbeing at work (perceived stress and burnout). This study surveyed 113 flight attendants of a major Italian airline, which had an on-going procedure of wage supplementation. The results confirmed the hypothesis of a significant relationship between the variables considered. It can therefore be argued that job insecurity is a threatening stressor that causes intense and lasting feelings of powerlessness in the workers: the perception of uncertainty leads workers to adopt a negative attitude towards their future perspective, creating a perception of stress in general life and giving rise to burnout on work.
