Molti dei resoconti di volontari internazionali sull’impatto delle loro esperienze suggeriscono che esse possano avere effetti positivi in termini di sviluppo di abilità sociali e relazionali, soprattutto in contesti pluri-culturali. La presente ricerca, condotta con 69 volontari rientrati da esperienze all’estero, analizza come le condizioni ritenute favorevoli per lo sviluppo della competenza interculturale (grado di immersione nella CO, riflessione guidata, reciprocità del contatto e supporto istituzionale) hanno contribuito alla percezione individuale dei partecipanti di tale competenza. I dati suggeriscono che alcune delle condizioni indagate, in quanto direttamente legate allo sviluppo di tale competenza, debbano essere oggetto di particolare attenzione nel pianificare programmi di Servizio Volontario Internazionale da parte delle organizzazioni invianti.;
