The article examines what kind of intellectual has been Zygmunt Bauman, against the background of his celebrated distinction between legislators and interpreters. It emphasizes how Bauman’s attitude towards the public sphere was centred around the idea of a presence, especially in his live appearances, where it became clear the correspondence between his thoughts and life.
